Oral Surgery Expertise for Impacted Teeth

Oral surgery procedure Elegant Smiles treatment image

When a tooth becomes trapped under the gums or stuck against another tooth, it often needs more than routine dental care. That is where oral surgery can help. At Elegant Smiles, we carefully evaluate impacted teeth and create a treatment plan based on your comfort, timing, and long-term oral health. Some patients come in with pain or swelling, while others discover the issue during an exam or X-ray. Either way, early treatment can prevent future complications. If discomfort starts suddenly, many people search for immediate relief for tooth pain in Georgia or Local Same Day Dentistry because they want answers quickly. Our goal is to provide clear guidance and timely care when it matters most.

Understanding Tooth Impaction

A tooth is considered impacted when it cannot fully break through the gums into its normal position. This usually happens because there is not enough space, the tooth is angled incorrectly, or another tooth blocks the path. Wisdom teeth are the most common example, but other teeth can become impacted too, especially canines. Some impacted teeth remain hidden and cause no obvious symptoms at first. Others create pressure, pain, crowding, or irritation. Because the problem can develop slowly, many people do not realize what is happening until symptoms become harder to ignore. A proper exam helps identify the issue and the best next step.

Types of Impacted Teeth

A tooth can be impacted in different ways. A fully impacted tooth is just below the gum line. A partially impacted tooth breaks through only partway, which can trap food and bacteria around the area. Some teeth grow sideways or at an angle, pressing against neighboring teeth. Others remain upright but cannot move any further because space is limited. Wisdom teeth often become impacted because they erupt last, when the mouth is already crowded. Every type of impaction is a little different, which is why treatment should be based on your specific situation rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Signs of an Impacted Tooth

Symptoms can range from mild to very noticeable. Some people feel pressure in the jaw or soreness near the back teeth. Others notice swelling, gum tenderness, bad breath, headaches, or difficulty opening the mouth comfortably. In some cases, the pain comes and goes, which makes it easy to ignore until it returns stronger. An impacted tooth can also affect nearby teeth by causing crowding or damaging roots over time. Even if symptoms seem minor, it is worth getting checked. Catching the issue early often means simpler treatment and fewer problems later on.

Treatment Options for Impacted Teeth

Treatment depends on the tooth involved, your symptoms, and whether nearby teeth are being affected. In some cases, monitoring the tooth with regular exams may be enough. If the tooth is causing pain, infection, crowding, or damage, removal is often recommended. For impacted canines or other important teeth, exposure and guided eruption may be possible instead of extraction. We explain the pros and cons clearly before moving forward. If pain is active and you need prompt help, many patients look for immediate relief for Tooth Pain Georgia or Local Same Day Dentistry because waiting can feel difficult when symptoms flare up.

What to Expect During Impacted Tooth Surgery

Complete Mouth Dental Implants Atlanta oral surgery treatment

Most patients feel better once they know what the process actually involves. Before surgery, we review imaging, explain the plan, and answer questions so there are no surprises. The area is numbed thoroughly, and sedation options may be available if you feel anxious. During the procedure, the focus is on comfort, precision, and protecting surrounding tissue. If the tooth is below the gums, a small opening may be made to access it safely. After treatment, we provide specific instructions on how to heal, eat, and soothe soreness. Many people say the anticipation was harder than the procedure itself.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My experience at Elegant Smiles was absolutely amazing! Dr. McKie and Daisy made me feel comfortable, welcomed, and genuinely cared for throughout my visit. They were both professional, kind, patient, and attentive to my needs. Best dental experience I’ve ever had! I’m so glad I gave Elegant a try and didn’t let the dental fear stop me because this is what it’s supposed to be like. Many people would come and do their cleanings more often if this is where they went. Daisy was incredible and brilliant. Personable is an understatement. She made every step of my appointment lighthearted. And Dr. Kimi had a gentle hand and she was incredibly kind. She was knowledgeable and efficient. Both of them never made me feel judged which was my biggest fear. I’m glad I have somewhere to go that won’t put my anxiety in turbo-mode.

As a new patient with this dental practice, i am thoroughly impressed with the staff, their quality of service, and my overall experience. I moved into the area not long ago and have had the hardest time finding a dentist that takes my Humana Medicare plan. So i was excited when i learned Elegant Smiles was an in-network provider (1st star) and i didn't have to wait long for an appointment (2nd star). I scheduled an appt for a basic cleaning but ended up needing a deep cleaning. Well I did miss a few cleanings over the last 2 years so i braced for the situation and proceeded knowing it may be a bit more painful. But i was so wrong and pleasantly pleased. From the start, the warm welcome from Lauren, the dental assistant, was delightful. Her smile and joyful personality is infectious. She's attentive, very good at helping patients relax, and seems to enjoy her work (3rd star). Upon meeting Dr. McKie, i was immediately comfortable with his demeanor and appreciated his recommendations as well as the attention he gives to his patients. But the highlight was the care and gentleness of the cleaning. I've been there twice now to complete the deep cleaning and it truly has been the best dental experience i've had. Dr. McKie's efficiency, quality of service, and professionalism is praiseworthy.

Very amiable staff. They are nice and very professional! I was helped by Hygienist Shewantai and Dr. To and they were the best! They were very gentle and took great care with my teeth. I’ve had many dentists in the past that were very cold and unforgiving with drilling into my teeth, so they were a breath of fresh air the first time I came here over a year ago. I definitely recommend this practice to anyone who is sensitive to dental work, they will take their time and be gentle with you!

He was extremely knowledgeable. He not only educated me, but helped me feel relieved about the concerns I had. I’m very pleased with the treatment I received as well as the customer service. There wasn’t a long wait & their X-Ray process is also super cool and quick! 10/10
